KWQM Advertising

The Keystone Water Quality Manager (KWQM) is the official publication of the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association. Each member of the Association receives a copy of this publication four times a year as part of their membership dues. In addition, many non-members also receive the publication under a special arrangement with local state sections. The total number of magazines mailed is approximately 2,200. The KWQM is distributed to consulting engineers, municipal officials, municipal and industrial operations personnel, manufacturers and their agents, universities and libraries, and other people interested in the activities of the Association and in water pollution control. Its purpose is to serve as a source of news and information on new treatment processes and techniques for improving the operation of wastewater treatment processors.

Advertising Policy

Advertising will be accepted subject to the following guidelines:

  • The PWEA reserves the right to reject advertising which it deems unsuitable and to refuse acceptance from advertisers of questionable credit or trade standing.
  • Advertising which simulates reading matter will be plainly marked “advertisement” in a typeline above or below the insertion, in accordance with postal regulations.
  • Cancellation will not be accepted after the closing dates specified for each publication. Payment must be submitted in full with contract. Outstanding payments must be brought up-to-date before any new advertising will be placed.
  • Initial review of proposed advertising or classified ads will be made by the PWEA staff and/or Board Members.
  • The PWEA is only responsible for providing advertising space, and is not liable for the content of advertisements appearing in the KWQM nor any other Association publication.
  • The PWEA reserves the right to determine the placement of all advertisements, except Special Position Ads.
  • A signed contract and payment must be submitted with each application prior to publication.
  • An advertiser may change the copy of an ad in any issue of the KWQM. The ad will be repeated as in the previous issue if the publisher has not received new copy by issue deadline.

Some tips to make your advertising pictures look the best they can:

  • For film cameras, use 35-mm color film. We can adjust it to black & white if needed.
  • For digital cameras, resolution is the key to reproduction quality. Always set the camera for its highest quality and resolution. Printing images requires at least 300 dpi. Your computer monitor is only capable of reading 72 dpi, which is why it might look great there but not when we print it. Simply “making it” 300 dpi will not always work—the best is to have it a 300 dpi at the original size you will need it. Generally, an electronic photo can be reduced without losing quality but it cannot be enlarged without losing quality.
  • For digital pictures, use a tif or jpeg format with a minimum of 300 dpi. If you are not sure about an image, please send the original print.
  • Avoid Polaroid pictures. Do not send or use machine copies or scans of copies, or faxes. Photos from newspapers, magazines or other publications can not be used. Please do not copy photos from Internet websites—generally they are not a high enough resolution and you must have permission to use them.
  • If your picture is not focused, please retake it. We will try to enhance a photo as much as possible, but we can’t fix a blurry photo. Try to select an interesting angle for your photo and get close!
  • Do not write on the back of an original photo ever! Ink can bleed through, you can create a permanent indentation, or it can come off onto another photo if stacked. Write on a sticky note instead! Also, please do not paper clip or fold your pictures.
