Pennsylvania Water Environment Association

Welcome to the President Message Page

Welcome to the newly redesigned website for the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association. The changes begin with a fresh face. We overhauled the navigation, making it easier for you to access information.

Our goal is simple: We wish to improve communications with our members.

When deciding what to included in my message, I thought about all the business the Board has been working on and other issues interrelated to the wastewater trade that PWEA has been tracking. After awhile it seemed so tedious and to reiterate business in my message just is so not me. So I decided I wanted to spotlight some of the topics which captured my attention under my "hot topics".

President's Hot Topics

  • Shovels are about ready to hit the ground because of funding made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. In April, PENNVEST approved 29 wastewater projects. Additional grants and loans will be awarded in July 2009.
  • PA DEP presents Chapter 302 –Operator Certification Regulations to the Environmental Quality Board. On April 21, 2009.
  • Anti-biosolids group holds meeting this spring in eastern Pennsylvania. Mid-Atlantic Biosolids Association hires a marketing consulting firm to help neutralize the anti-biosolids group message.
  • President Obama signs executive order on May 12, 2009 declaring the Chesapeake Bay as a national treasure and intensifying the cleanup efforts.

Additional information of these topics and issues PWEA is working on may be found in the E-newsletters, Keystone Water Quality Manager, and links posted on our web site. Please take time to visit other areas of our website. I hope you like our redesigned site and find it to be helpful.
